Mécanisme photochimique qui détruit une partie de l'ozone stratosphérique nouvellement formé et qui contribue ainsi à l'établissement d'un équilibre naturel de la quantité d'ozone.

OBS

Par opposition, la notion d'appauvrissement en ozone renvoie à la diminution de la quantité moyenne d'ozone en équilibre qu'on serait en mesure d'attendre. Il arrive cependant que le terme destruction soit un simple synonyme d'appauvrissement et qu'il désigne la disparition anthropique de l'ozone.
